I grew up in Newport Beach and swam all my life. Water sports have always been a big part of my life. I swam competitively as pre-teen & teenager. I switched to synchronized swimming after competitive swimming, which taught me & life guarded for the city of Newport Beach for many years. As an adult I swim with the Y Master's swim team and have competed in both pool events and many open water swims. I joined the triathlon club four years ago and enjoying training and meeting new friends. |

This is my 5th year with the El Camino YMCA Tri Club and I am still as excited about the club and triathlon as in my first year. I have completed several sprint and olympic distance triathlons, participated in a few relay teams and was a finisher of the Big Sur Half Marathon and the 5th Aids/Lifecycle San Francisco to LA Bike Ride. Before joining the club I would never have thought of participating in any such event, but since joining the sky seems to be the limit. We have a very friendly club environment and our coaches, Rick and Phyllis are extremely committed and supportive. |

I joined the Club two years ago and have been training with them every single day since. Because of their enthusiasm and support I have completed 6 triathlons and now I'm addicted to it! |

I joined the tri team because someone laughed at me when I asked about the club - to me that was a challenge!
Granted I was carrying a little extra weight, but I had been running - ok, walking - so I thought I was in pretty good shape and how hard could it be - besides, I might lose a few pounds as a bonus! I knew how to ride a bike, even though it had been years - I learned to swim early in life, even though I was more of a floater at that point - and I knew I could run, or walk - so in I jumped. That was 3 years ago and I've loved every minute of it! From my first sprint in dog paddle mode to every race since, there has been nothing but support, friendly competition and encouragement from incredible friends! Not to mention some great stories! |
